Hiram Farrand, resident of Newark, N.J. enrolled in Company F of the 1st New York Volunteer Engineers Regiment in Sept. 1861. In October he was commissioned the 2nd Lieutenant, and in Feb. 1862 promoted to First Lieutenant of Co. E. In Dec. 21, 1863 he was appointed acting regimental adjutant. In March 1864 Farrand was commissioned Captain of Co. D.
